Rail Projects
Peter Cowsill Ltd has long been involved with rail projects, mainly working as Consulting Engineering Geologists to contractors such as APB Group Ltd., AMCO, etc. On the West Coast Main Line we interpreted ground investigation data and designed pile foundations for communication masts in varied ground conditions and at positions with access problems. In the Midlands area on lines from Tamworth to Water Orton and Nuneaton we produced geotechnical reports for 180 structures including signal posts, gantries and OLE gantries. In Birmingham we supervised the ground investigation for and the retention systems for widened cuttings for new lines. This involved soil nailing of gabian mattresses and drainage in weathered Mercia Mudstone. We have investigated many other rail locations for UTX crossings, REBs, etc. We undertook exploratory works on the Network Rail test facility at Melton Mowbray where slope stability problems were experienced in a cutting. Between Walsall and Cannock we supervised ground investigation works for 130 structures including OLE gantries, signal gantries and control boxes. Peter Cowsill Ltd. has produced numerous geotechnical reports for crane pads, pipe jacked culverts, slopes and bridges; including works spread over much of England and Scotland.
